Vancouver Fringe Festival

ddrucker - Vancouver.jpg

A Photographic Poster for the Vancouver Fringe Festival. This ad tries to get away from the 'grundge' look that's been favoured by the festival in the past, and in some ways looks backward to ads of the 70s and 80s. The only piece of identification from Fringe Festivals of the past is the Bernard MT Condensed font, here in the centre of the photo, floating above the scene.

A dramatic festival needs a dramatic image. Jason's photograph immediately made me think of three things: Vancouver (the scene), Drama (the quality of the small Japanese maple leaf vs. the grandeur and complexity of the scene), and Canada (the same maple leaf, but as an iconic symbol).

I suspect that an ad with this kind of photorealism and continuous tone colour would not be something that the Fringe Festival could afford. Still, they could do something like this on the Internet, and perhaps do a black and white scene with just the maple leaf in red as a spot colour for print...although it might have a different impact entirely.
